‘Klaire may have started with guitar chords and frustration, but what he built is a manifesto. One that swells with theatrical poise and lands with an emotional impact few artists dare aim for.’ – AnR Factory

About
Open The Door is a response to the jingoism that seems to have spread through the UK and indeed the western world in recent years. It seems like the whole world has developed this attitude that the land they live on belongs to them and they have the right to dictate who lives on that expanse of earth for the brief speck of time that they are living there. It’s the earth, it was here long before us and will be here long after us. You can’t own it no matter how long you or your people have occupied it.
Open The Door is about how the whole world has it all wrong. In the western world in particular, the press is mainly responsible for the spreading the idea that you are being patriotic if you don’t let ‘foreigners’ in to ‘your’ country. Foreign people are different, have less rights than you…are not as good as you….
The whole world needs to understand that every person alive has just as much right to live anywhere in the world as anyone else. The right to have ownership of a chunk of land only exists in our heads. It’s not real.
Making video
I created the video with the help of Krea.ai. It was really hard work. Although the Krea.ai is great at what it does, when you have a very clear idea of what you want it to create it is really hard to make it come up with exactly what’s in your head. Combine that with the fact that it will only make 10 seconds of video at a time and the track is around 9 minutes long, it was a nighmare! It took me about 2 months of working on it for 5 or 6 hours a day, every day.
Writing of
I wrote Open The Door like I write all my songs, as music. I wrote the whole thing as a melody and chords played on two guitars. I then added lyrics and then I started the instrumentation.
I wrote it, mixed it, performed it all on my own in my second bedroom/music room!
I have actually mixed it and got it mastered, twice before. But it never sounded as good as I wanted. This is my third try and as my mixing skills have improved, I’ve managed to save up for better equipment (mic, drum software etc.) I’ve got it sounding as good as I possibly can on my own and I’m happy enough with it now to release it.
I did send it to be mastered by a professional mastering engineer, Steve Kitch. He is a registered Apple Digital masterer and did an amazing job.
